Positive Impact Movement Mentoring Program

The Positive Impact Movement Program (PIM) utilizes a mentor restorative model with a mission to change the cultural environment of "high need" youth by addressing issues related to violent and destructive behavior.

Through mentoring, restorative practices, social-emotional training, life skills coaching, peer mediation, character development, community outreach, and self-esteem building, PIM works to create an alternative youth culture by achieving positive outcomes with difficult populations. PIM hires men and women who are urban specialist that mentor high need youth who require training that is relevant to establishing appropriate values and character that encourage prosocial behavior. PIM Urban Specialist Mentors function as relevant role models who recount their first-hand experiences about the consequences of negative behavior and the benefits of prosocial positive behavior. Urban Specialist Mentors are from the same neighborhoods and have the same cultural backgrounds as the young people served; they understand their issues and challenges. Urban Specialist Mentors /Cultural Influencers provide one-on-one and group mentorship, student advocacy, conflict resolution and mediation, crises intervention and management, climate control services, cafeteria monitoring, hallway monitoring, classroom monitoring, community outreach, parent and teacher conferences, and home visits. PIM targets high-need communities, children, and youth, particularly those who are struggling with behavior, academic issues, and violence. These include young men and women between the ages of 14 – 18 who have been referred by school staff who characterize them as at-risk scholars, who are disruptive, participated in fights, and or are associated with or members of a gang. Urban Specialist Mentors provide character development activities to identified students referred by school administrators who require training that is relevant to establishing appropriate values, beliefs and building a sense of self. PIM has incorporated designed sessions to produce human transformation in youth who need to develop a mastery of life skills. PIM has incorporated workshops inclusive of human development activities that can be facilitated in eight-week cycles.
